How to care for your Hand Tied Bouquet?

So, you've got a beautiful bunch of flowers delivered! What's next? And how do you care for them so you can enjoy them for longer? Well look no further, here's a little guide on the best way to keep your flowers bloomin' marvelous!

So, we always advise flowers to be sent out in water, so your bouquet should be lovingly arranged and presented in one of our personalised brown bags or similar. They will have a cellophane bubble of water attached to the bottom (aqua pack) - we always send flowers out like this as they are thirsty! Like us they need to stay hydrated to keep them looking fantastic.

Your bouquet can stay in its presented cellophane and bag for a maximum of one day, all flowers need to have clean water and a fresh cut every other day for longevity, keep reading and this will explain why...

Unwrap your bouquet, ideally over a sink to catch the water bubble so it doesn’t create small waterfall all over you. (we've all been there; nobody likes wet feet!) remove all the cellophane by cutting the ribbon and underneath that the small green floristry string this will release the water bubble. Then remove the "collar" cellophane around the top this is usually tied on by a couple of staples or a small bit of cellotape.

When we create a bouquet, our skilled florists arrange it so that the stems spiral - this creates that beautiful arrangement, we tie it with the green floristry string to keep the flowers where they look best. DON'T cut that string- keep it there, that way your flowers will look the same way they did when there were delivered but in your vase.

Annnd breath. your flowers are out of their packaging. on to the next step.

Grab yourself your favourite vase, and here's another important bit...make sure it’s clean! give it a rinse out under warm water, if you have used any chemicals or its been through your dishwasher, make sure you give it a wash with clean water to make sure no nasties are left behind.

Clean vase. Check. What’s next?

Hold your bunch at the tie point (the green string that holding them together) and grab your vase, the tie point needs to sit just below the neck of the vase- by doing this you will see how much needs to be cut off your flowers! Then they will fit perfectly!

Right, so you now know how much to cut, grab your scissors, cut every stem at an angle - cutting them at an angle is important. You know when your drinking your favourite beverage through a straw and you get to the bottom, knowing full well there’s all lot more good stuff in there but it just won’t suck up? That’s because the straw is cut flat and there’s no gap for the liquid to be sucked up. This applies to your flowers! They need every ounce of that water. So, cutting them at a slight angle is perfect!

Almost there... Stay with us

Fill your vase up! Tepid water and make sure there’s enough water in there so that all the stem ends are covered. Remove any leaves from the stems that will be submerged. Add your flower food, pop your flowers in and VOLIA!

Go place your flowers in your favourite spot, a coffee table, or sideboard perhaps. Then enjoy!

Every two days you will need to repeat a couple steps, remove your bunch, tip out the old water, clean and refresh you vase, and then RE CUT the stems - this is so important to re cut them every time you change the water - this is the secret to long lasting blooms!

Key notes to remember:

RECUT the stems every couple of days
CLEAN your vase
ADD FRESH water
POSITION - don’t put them in direct sunlight or near a heat source like a radiator.

So, there you have it! The secret to beautiful long-lasting flowers.
